Super Bowl Sunday has become an unofficial holiday in the United States and around the world with millions of fans tuning in to the big game. As is the custom, friends and families get together to watch this American pastime (and the commercials) at festive Super Bowl parties. Even in Israel, dedicated fans sacrifice a night’s sleep to cheer on their favorite team.
However, this year you have the unique opportunity to add special meaning to your Super Bowl party. As a result of the current situation in Southern Israel, the Max and Ruth Schwartz Yeshivat Hesder of Sderot is asking our friends and supporters worldwide to host Super Bowl parties while having our brave soldiers on the front lines in Gaza and our students under fire in Sderot in mind.
Here is how it works:
- Host your Super Bowl party with all the trimmings like any other year
- However, instead of asking your friends to only bring the beer and chips, ask them to bring along their generosity as well
- The Hesder will provide a short but very moving DVD for you to show at halftime or before the game, which illustrates how despite the daily Kassam attacks, the Hesder students continue to grow and thrive in Sderot while at the same time, making a huge difference in the lives of the residents of their beleaguered town through various volunteer initiatives. The movie shows how the Hesder’s young men proudly serve in Israel’s armed forces
- The Hesder will also provide professional brochures with more information on all of our important programs
- Hosts will then collect donations and send them to the Hesder’s US office. Funds can be earmarked towards two very important projects:
- The completion of the Hesder’s new “Kassam proof” dormitories which are currently under construction. Students this past year were forced out of their old dorms since they were deemed unsafe in the event of a direct rocket hit.
- The Hesder’s new “Adopt a Soldier Program”. We are currently encouraging communities respectively to adopt one of our soldiers current serving in the IDF. Whether it is through meals, supplies, or pre-combat training and educational sessions, your generosity will go a long way in helping our troops. Through this program, you will have the opportunity to communicate with your selected soldier via email to send him messages of encouragement and support during these difficult times.
